Our relationship was complex.

He was my roommate, my close friend, and my boyfriend’s older brother. In many ways, he was my big brother as well, which is how I ended up living with him when the circumstances of my life left me homeless.

When he found out from my boyfriend that I had lost my housing, and was basically living out of my car, he didn’t skip a beat. He offered me free room and board, available immediately.

Living with Jordan was easy.

I had the whole east wing of the house to myself. The only thing we shared was the kitchen. I had my own entryway which Jordan made sure to install motion sensor lights for me, so I could come and go with ease.

He stocked the kitchen with frozen breakfast sandwiches, French vanilla coffee creamer, and loads of coffee, to satisfy my busy college student lifestyle. At Christmas time he bought me my own Christmas tree and decorations to enjoy. He clearly liked spoiling me.

I was in dire need of the good fortune.

I spent most of my time at work, school or with my boyfriend so we didn’t see a lot of each other. Occasionally, we’d pass each other in the morning or say “good-night” at the end of a long day, but in…
